Carlsberg

Managing crises and serious events on a daily basis

Before the COVID-19 crisis, Carlsberg Breweries A/S also had the organization and system ready to deal with small and large crises. It could be a serious accident at work, a fire at a brewery or an external event like an earthquake or a flood endangering our human or physical values.

With its crisis strategy - and our event alerting, recording and reporting system - Carlsberg has ensured that they can respond quickly and effectively to both large and small incidents.

Søren Boy Lindholm, Head of Crisis Management at Carlsberg, has spoken out about their experience of the pandemic and organisation in our ad-paid article in the leading Danish financial newspaper, Børsen. Click here to read it.

"We prefer to brew beer, but we should be able to change the cap and brew beer with one hand and do effective crisis management with the other hand. A kind of daily operation, just on steroids, if you like," says Søren Boy Lindholm, Head of Crisis Management at Carlsberg.

CBS - Copenhagen Business School

We want to be at the top in regards to safety

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) is among the only 50 educational institutions in the world with the certification EQUIS. One of the parameters is safety and security.

With a more complex threat picture, more than a simple fire alarm is needed, where everyone can be trained to gather in the yard at a specific sound. With terrorist threats on top of the stack combined with multiple locations, a more nuanced alert mechanism is needed, while keeping it as robust and simple as possible.

At CBS, they can communicate quickly with RMG C3 Campus Alert to all students and employees. Students can now consent upon enrolment, that they will receive messages, and they can sign up for the service automatically. The goal is to meet the police critical mass target of 60% of people present, with CBS going from having 3,500 enrolled to 9,000 out of 22,000.

Fortunately, it is rare for CBS to need to raise an alarm, but CBS knows that it is important to practice emergency responses so that they test their crisis management and alarm systems on a monthly basis and get the processes to the backbone.

"We are in international competition, and student safety is an important parameter for Americans, for example," Lars Bergø, Head of Department of Ushers, Information and Security (BIS) at CBS.

  • ‎For the municipalities, it allows for a complete history, which makes it easier to evaluate, and one is not caught by version conflicts, etc. that would occur in an Excel sheet and the like.‎
  • ‎It's an intuitive system that requires minimal setup, and users are good to go from day 1.‎
  • ‎Processes and messages can be automated to minimize the risk of making mistakes.‎

Favrskov Municipality

Acts of violence, harassment, threats and workers comp: Easier, combined registration

Favrskov Municipality has focused on increasing the registration of violent incidents. Something that used to happen either in manual forms, in EASY (the governmental system) or not at all. A registration in C3 is only expected to take a quarter of the time compared to registrations in EASY, and the manual forms are difficult to use for prevention, as number, patterns in terms of time and place etc. could not be easily inferred. Especially not over larger, combined areas.

Together with Favrskov Municipality, we have prepared as simple as possible registration of different degrees of incidents - occupational injuries, violence, threats and harassment. At the same time, if the incident is sufficiently serious, the manager is immediately involved. The victim - or victims - is then immediately helped to defuse/start recovering from the incident.

Favrskov Municipality expects to shed light on the real number of incidents and to support staff in the school area, day care centres, the elderly, the disabled and psychiatry area, etc. through targeted preventive action. In addition, individual employees get help through history-recording of minor events that accumulated can have a big impact on the individual.

"We lacked the big picture, including the manual forms", says Steen Lundgaard Jensen, Occupational Safety and Health and Lean Consultant at Favrskov Municipality. In particular, he appreciates the increased simplicity combined with automatic notification of the management staff and health and safety representatives in case of violent incidents.
